Story quality checker

Paste a user story and get a score out of 100, an INVEST assessment, what the story does well and up to three priority fixes.

This demo applies fixed rules, not AI. It runs in your browser, nothing you type is sent anywhere, and the sample stories are made up.

How the score works

The score is out of 100 across five areas: story statement 20, testable criteria 30, size and scope 20, gaps and risks 15, and open items 15. The label comes only from the final number: 90 or more is ready for refinement, 75 to 89 is almost ready, 50 to 74 needs work and below 50 is not ready. Some gaps cap the score, so a story with no acceptance criteria can never look ready.

INVEST is a well-known checklist for user stories: Independent, Negotiable, Valuable, Estimable, Small and Testable. The six tiles map each check to a letter. Negotiable is a note only, because flagging "how" wording would give too many false alarms.

The agile principles behind it. Agile teams favor conversation over paperwork, working software over heavy documentation and responding to change over following a plan. That is why the checker flags open questions to settle in conversation and rewards small stories. You can read the original statement at agilemanifesto.org.

Limits: these are fixed rules, so they cannot judge whether a reason is truly meaningful. A story can look tidy and still be wrong. Inspired by INVEST and common agile practice. It is not an official tool of any standards body.

Why I built it: weak stories are cheapest to fix early and most expensive to discover late. These are the checks I apply when I review a story.
